27 May Introducing EverLog Concrete Board and Batten Siding
EverLog Board & Batten Siding is another worry free concrete product from EverLog Systems.
Using EverLog Board and Batten will greatly impact the look of any home, barn, garage, store-front, or any other structure. This product can be applied to new or existing structures and immediately provides the rustic vertical look and feel of Board & Batten.
Applications vary greatly but is most commonly used in gables and dormers as a complement or transition from our horizontal log products however it is also used for bump-outs, garages, breezeways or on the entire structure. Our patented 2-piece design creates an 8-inch exposed Board and a 4-inch exposed Batten. Raised “ears” on the board piece creates a vertical channel that limits moisture from penetrating in behind the board and batten siding and allows it to drain down, which was one of the negatives of traditional wood construction.
As with all our worry-free concrete products, EverLog Board and Batten Siding eliminates the high cost and continuous maintenance requirements of natural wood products.
Board and Batten History
Sometimes referred to as barn siding or batten and board siding, it was used as exterior cladding in areas that were abundant in natural timbers and for construction where the structural framing was mainly horizontal post and beam timber framing. The Boards were ran vertically and spanned from horizontal timber members.
Typically 1-foot wide, the Boards were applied to cover the entire exterior, similar to sheathing. Unlike other siding styles, however, a horizontal lap siding was additional expense in order to water-proof the building, thus the Batten was created to add over the seams in the boards to inhibit moisture ingress from getting in between the boards. The battens were anywhere from 1-inch wide to 4-inches wide.
This style of siding was motly used on informal architectural styles like farm houses, barns, churches and was also seen on carpenter gothic structures and in modern construction it is referred to as a rustic-style siding method.
